Why We Called It Pastetory
Every product needs a name. Some go for something corporate and forgettable. We went for something that makes you smile — and then makes perfect sense once you get it.
It's that simple. Paste — because that's what you do. You copy something on one device and paste it on another. It's the most fundamental action in computing, and somehow in 2026 it still doesn't work seamlessly across your phone, laptop, and tablet.
Story — because your clipboard has a history. Every snippet you copy tells a story. That password you saved. The address you looked up. The code snippet you found at 2am. The photo you wanted to show someone. They're all little chapters in your day.
Yes, it sounds like "pastry"
We know. That's the point. Everyone loves pastries. Croissants, bear claws, Cornish pasties — and yes, that's exactly why our pricing tiers are named after them. The Croissantetory free tier. The Cornish Pastetory. The Bear Claw. Because if you're going to build a product people use every day, it should at least make them hungry.
But isn't it spelt wrong?
Absolutely. And isn't that what the cool kids do on the internet? Flickr dropped the 'e'. Tumblr dropped the 'e'. Reddit isn't "Read It". The best product names aren't dictionary words — they're words that feel right. You hear "Pastetory" and you know exactly what it does, even if your spell checker disagrees.
Plus, the domain was available. That's basically how half the internet gets named.
What it means to us
Pastetory isn't just a clipboard tool. It's the story of everything you copy — encrypted, private, and available wherever you are. Your paste history. Your pastetory.
And if it makes you think of a warm croissant every time you open it? You're welcome.
